Lactation Insurance Coverage for Aetna, Independence Blue Cross, Cigna & More

I am In-Network with most Aetna and Independence Blue Cross Plans. I highly recommend calling your plan and verifying your in-network lactation coverage. You can provide my provider number to confirm our visits with bill covered. My provider Information is listed below.

  • Name: Jessica Wimer

    Company: Born and Fed

    Provider Number: 1679096051

    Provider Location: Kirkwood, PA 17536

Aetna

While I am in network with Aetna, they have recently changed their billing policies which affects the number of visits they will cover and may lead to some potential cost sharing. Below is an Aetna Billing Guide. I recommend calling and speaking to a plan representative and ask: "What is the patient responsibility for each of these codes?”

They'll tell you there are "6 free visits" but that's no longer the case. It's essential to ask about the specific codes.

Here’s the text that we send when they tell me they have Aetna

Mom Codes:

  • Z39.1 + S9443 (billed at each visit, home and office)

  • Z39.1 + 99344 (mom home initial)

  • Z39.1 + 99349 (mom home followup)

Baby Codes:

  • P92.5 + S9443 (billed at each visit, home and office)

  • P92.5 + 99403 (baby home, 90 min visit)

  • P92.5 + 99404 (baby home, 2h visit)

Rough Cost Estimates (Varies by Plan). There are not a guarantee of costs.

VISITS 1-3

  • Total for Mom and Baby for Office: $0, most plans, 60 minute visit

  • Total for Mom and Baby for Home: the cost of baby's 99403 $7-90

VISITS 4++

  • Total for Mom and Baby for Office: $71.50 (mom) + $71.50 (baby) for 60 minute visit

  • Total for Mom and Baby for Home: $71.50 (mom) + $71.50 (baby) + the $7-$90 cost of 99403

Cigna

I am not in network with Cigna but I am able to bill throughout a third party biller called Wildflower. To verify your coverage with Wildflower, please head to THIS LINK. Once you have verified coverage you will be directed my booking page. Christian Health Care Ministry CHCM offers unlimited reimbursement for lactation support during the first 90 days postpartum. You will be paying up front and I will supply you with a super bill for reimbursement.

OTHER PLANS

While I am not In-Network for other insurance plans, I do contact with two Third Party Billers who cover many other plans (see list below).

Born and Fed's Insurance Coverage for Sutter Health, PNOA, Multiplan and United Health Care showing eligibility and virtual coverage

If you have carry one of these plans, please go to www.lactationnetwork.com and “Request a Consult.” List me, Jessica Wimer, as your lactation consultant and you should hear back from them shortly to verify coverage.

All other plans including Highmark Blue Shield & Capital Blue Shield

If your plan is not listed above, you may still have options for insurance coverage. While I am not able to be in network for your plan, you can call your plan directly to confirm what your out of network reimbursement rates will look like. Listed below are the codes I will be using to bill for your plan. Once you have verified what portion of your bill your plan will reimburse, you can move forward with booking and appointment and paying the cash rate. After our visit, I will provide you with a super bill that can be submitted for reimbursement.

HSA

Health savings accounts can be utilized to pay for lactation care. If you have access to a health savings account with a credit card, we can bill directly to that card. For plans without a card, I can provider you with a super bill that can be used to receive reimbursement from your HSA.

My experience with Jessica was great! I began working with her prenatally and she listened to my concerns and answered all of my questions. In following appointments she helped me to feel confident with breastfeeding as a first time mom while helping my baby and I in our unique challenges along our journey. She was supportive and encouraging through a case of mastitis, and triple feeding protocol. She gave us the tools and knowledge to get to where I am today with baby. Breastfeeding is now easy and enjoyable, as it should be!

Jessica is the best of the best! She is incredibly knowledgeable, yet so down-to-Earth. She supported me and both of my babies and guided us through our breastfeeding journeys in such a personal and caring manner. She takes a "whole picture" approach and really gets to the root cause of any issue. And when I had questions outside of our sessions, she always graciously offered her advice and helped me work through whatever challenge I was facing. You and your baby are in the best hands with Jess. She is top notch!

Jessica helped so much with my tough breastfeeding journey. My son had a severe tongue and lip tie and I was referred to her by our pediatric dentist that performed the releases. I had a different lactation consultant for my first son who had similar issues and she was also great, but Jessica’s knowledge really goes above and beyond. She demonstrates a true understanding of oral motor function and the full body connection to dysfunction. She introduced me to different positioning strategies and bodywork that helped my son achieve the oral motor function needed to go from exclusively pumping, to triple feeding, and now to exclusively breastfeeding within 2.5 months. She understands how to set goals that are realistic and attainable to reduce the risk of burnout. Triple feeding is exhausting and often times unrealistic (especially with a toddler), so we worked together to figure out routines that would realistically incorporate nursing, pumping to maintain supply, oral motor and bodywork exercises, and bottle feeding. She was very open and honest about how those routines may impact how quickly I’d achieve my goals and was open to adjustments in that routine based on what was working and what was not on any given week. Her ability to make you feel comfortable and breadth of knowledge is invaluable!

Jess at Born and Fed is a game charger in the lactation consulting world. Her naturalistic approach to breastfeeding helps the experience feel not so scary, especially for first time moms! I struggled with breastfeeding pain and my daughter wasn't gaining after birth due to ties. Jess helped us along the way after we got a frenectomy with baby body work in various forms. I now have an 8 month old chonky baby (22lbs!!) who is exclusively breast fed. Jess does things different and isn't your typical IBCLC, and I'm so thankful for that! 100000% recommend!

I am so thankful I found Jessica online and was able to book a next day appointment. Struggling to nurse a one week old baby is extremely stressful so having her come to me for a one hour session in the comfort of my home was so so so wonderful. I wasn’t sure what would come of the appointment but from the minute she arrived I felt really encouraged and she was a huge help and resource. Highly recommend!

I met Jessica at Paoli Hospital after giving birth to my daughter. Not only was she the most thoughtful and caring nurse I interacted with during my stay but she was also the most comforting and relatable nurse as well. I was really excited to learn that Jessica was also a lactation consultant and I booked a home-visit appointment with her right away. When Jessica came to my home she was just as wonderful as I had remembered and she helped ease my nerves about pumping and took the time to show me how to do it correctly. I highly recommend Jessica as both a lactation consultant and a nurse- if you get to have her care for you as both, then you and your baby are very lucky! Thanks Born and Fed, I will recommend your care to all new moms and moms-to-be!

Jessica is a truly a life saver and I could not recommend her more. Every appointment has left me feeling renewed and prepared to continue on my breastfeeding journey which I surely would have given up on if it wasn’t for her. She not only approaches everything with a wholistic perspective of my baby but also with me and my sanity in mind. If you are a new mom book an appointment with her today.

Jessica is amazing! I called her, and she came to my house the next morning. She was so helpful and caring. My baby and I were struggling with breastfeeding for the first few days, and she was able to help us with our issues. We are doing great now because of her! I also loved that I was able to contact her afterwards with any questions I had. She was prompt and thorough. Thank you, Jessica!

Jessica is wonderful and I couldn’t ask for a more helpful or caring lactation consultant! She has helped me with 2 of my babies and has given me amazing guidance and reassurance through it all. She is incredibly knowledgeable and also always looking to learn more. I also love that she comes to our house and is available to answer questions through a portal. Very professional, prompt and organized. The best!

This is my very first online review EVER. Jessica has been so wonderful in helping my daughter and I through our trails and tribulations with breastfeeding. She listened to my husband and my wants and needs while making sure my daughter was as healthy as possible as we worked through a rocky beginning. I am going to continue working with Jessica but I just wanted to say that she is a compassionate resource and advocate without whom I would have given up on breastfeeding. She is a consummate professional and I would highly recommend her to everyone.
